Pacific Coast Highway Drive

13 Aug

We left La Jolla on Saturday and headed up the coast to see the historic Pacific Coast Highway drive on California Highway 1. We skipped over the part from San Deigo to L.A. because we heard the traffic was horrible! Plus on one of the last Saturdays of summer, it really didn’t sound like a good idea. Looking down on the L.A. area.

After we got past the main L.A. Areas, we cut over and hit the PCH before Malibu. We stopped at one of the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dive stops, The Reel Inn.

The Reel Inn had their own fish counter so you could pick out what you wanted to eat and watch them cook it for you.

We sat outside on the patio, it was spacious, quiet and had a great view!

If I lived there, it would definitely be one of my go-to places to eat and hang out with friends. I hope there were more locals than tourists there, but it was hard to tell!

For the rest of the day, we wound along the coast, taking in the amazing mountains to our right.

There wasn’t too much traffic and we took a couple of opportunities to stop and get a few pictures. Right before we were getting to our stopping point for the night, I took a wrong turn and we ended up at the end of the United States. Literally, the roads tops 50 ft before an Amtrack station, which is about 100 feet from the ocean. I have to say this was one of those times taking a wrong turn ended up to be really cool.
